Measuring Our Shoes

Measuring and recording our results.

Measure carefully.

We worked with a partner to trace and measure our shoe size. We had to mark each shoe with our name and whether it was the left or right shoe. We glued our shoes on a long sheet of paper. We had to choose something to measure our shoes with from the maths cupboard. Some children used the multi links, some used bottle tops, some used lids and some used counters. We had to measure our own shoes and then measure other childrens shoes to try and find someone with shoes that were smaller  and bigger than ours. We all had great fun measuring carefully.

Making Towers with Spaghetti & Marshmallews on PhotoPeach

We discovered while working with cooked and uncooked spaghetti that it can’t be changed back once it has been cooked.

We made a word chain about how the spaghetti changed.

Uncooked Spaghetti  – hard – sharp – cookcooked spaghetti – sticky – soft – can’t be changed back.

Words we brainstormed to describe uncooked spaghetti are :

*straight     *hard     *dry     *breakable     *thin     *a little bendy     *rigid     *messy

Measuring Our Height

Measuring Our height 003Yesterday we used  streamers to measure how tall we were. We then went out to the Coma and had to compare our heights with each other. We found the tallest down to the shortest person in our class.

Measuring Fun!

We’ve had fun measuring length using different things from the maths cupboard. We used popsticks, several different sized counters, dice, triangle blocks, lids and bottle tops. We discovered that we need to use something that is the same size to get an accurate measure. We decided that we couldn’t measure using our coloured pencils as they are all different sizes. We measured our desks, our rulers and the metre ruler.
